Jewelry Care
Welcome to our guide on caring for your fine jewelry. Fine jewelry, with its precious metals and gemstones, is not just a beautiful accessory but also a valuable investment. Proper care ensures its lasting beauty and integrity. Whether it's a cherished family heirloom or a recent purchase, these guidelines will help you keep your jewelry looking its best.
Daily Wear Tips
Routine
- Make putting on your jewelry the last step of your morning routine to avoid contact with cosmetics and perfumes.
- Remove your jewelry first in your evening routine.
Avoid Exposure to Chemicals
- Take off your jewelry during physical activities, especially swimming or sports, to prevent physical damage or exposure to chlorinated water.
Physical Activity
- It's wise to remove your jewelry during physical activities, especially swimming or sports, to avoid potential damage or exposure to harsh elements.
Sunlight and Heat
- Prolonged exposure to sunlight can affect the color of gemstones. Keep your jewelry away from excessive heat.
Cleaning and Storage
Regular Cleaning
- Gently clean your jewelry with a soft, lint-free cloth. For a deeper clean, use a mild soap with lukewarm water and a soft brush, but avoid this method for soft or porous stones.
Professional Cleaning
- Periodic professional cleaning is recommended, especially for pieces worn frequently. This service is always free for our clients! Just drop by anytime we are open.
Proper Storage
- Store your jewelry in a fabric-lined jewelry box or pouch, keeping pieces separate to avoid scratches.
Handling and Maintenance
Gentle Handling
- Handle your jewelry by its edges to avoid transferring oils from your fingers to gemstones and pearls.
Regular Checks
- Regularly check for loose stones or any signs of wear. This is always a free service with our store. Just drop by anytime we are open.
Repairs
- If your piece gets damaged, we are always here to help. Bring it in, and our team will assess the damage and provide a cost estimate. We pride ourselves on offering excellent workmanship to restore your jewelry to its original glory.
By following these simple care instructions, you can preserve the beauty and longevity of your fine jewelry. Remember, fine jewelry is not just an adornment but a legacy that can be passed down through generations.
Additional Care
Our Lifetime Warranty
All of our engagement rings, wedding rings, and fine jewelry come standard with a lifetime service warranty. This includes free cleanings and check-ups, as well as prong re-tightening, for the lifetime of your piece. Our warranty also covers any quality issues stemming from manufacturing defects. Additionally, within the first year of purchase, we offer one free polishing or rhodium plating, and one free sizing. For more comprehensive coverage, including damage from wear and tear or loss, we recommend purchasing insurance or our Jewelry Care Plan.
JM Lifetime Care Plan
The JM Lifetime Care Plan offers comprehensive coverage for repairs needed, up to the value of your jewelry. This plan must be purchased individually for each piece you wish to cover and before the jewelry leaves the store.
This plan covers a wide range of services, including the replacement of lost side diamonds, resizing, polishing, rhodium plating, rebuilding prongs, and even shipping costs. However, please note that it does not cover the complete loss or theft of the piece. The cost of the plan is a one-time payment and varies based on the value of the item you want to insure.
Jeweler's Mutual Insurance
Jewelers Mutual Insurance provides coverage for the replacement of your ring in the event of loss or theft. It also protects against damage and includes loss or theft coverage during worldwide travel. However, it does not cover cosmetic repairs such as polishing or rhodium plating. This insurance is available through a yearly subscription service, which can be started or stopped at any time. The typical cost ranges from 1–2% of the ring's appraised value per year.
