Jewelry Wear and Tear

Every piece of jewelry will require care and maintenance over time. Gold, platinum, diamonds, and other materials are very durable but are not indestructible. Everyone wears their jewelry differently and depending on the design of the piece there may be more or less maintenance required.

How to slow down the wear and tear process

We know you want to wear your jewelry all the time, but to help extend the longevity of your piece we recommend:

  • Removing jewelry when showering, applying makeup/lotions, exercising, doing housework, and before going to bed.

Types of care

We rank our pieces attention for the care and maintenance on a scale of low, medium and high. However, depending on your frequency of wearing your pieces this may change the ranking for the piece. We give our ratings based on wearing your jewelry every day. The maintenance of your piece may be lower if you only plan to wear the piece for special occasions.

  • Low - an easy to maintain style and that you should have checked at least once a year. These are typically pieces with no or very little side stones set into the piece. It will also include most earrings and neckl;aces because these types of jewelry will typically receive the least amount of wear and tear.
  • Medium - you should have this style checked at least once every 6 months. Typical medium care pieces include bracelets, dainty styles, such as rings under 2mm or rings with french/micro pavé stones.
  • High - These types of styles take more work to maintain and you should have this style checked at least once every 3 months. Pieces in this category can be 3D Pave pieces, eternity rings, and other pieces where there is very little metal to show off the stones.

When we say at least, this is the most minimal care, we encourage all of our clients to bring in their pieces in more frequently. You are always welcome to come by our store for free ring cleaning and checkups as often as you like. The cleaning and checkup usually take about 10-30 minutes depending on how much cleaning the piece requires. The more frequently you visit we are able to better help catch issues and keep your ring sparkling.

Keep in mind wearing your jewelry every day is like wearing the same outfit every day. Your jewelry just like your clothes needs to be maintained and cleaned. We recommend taking the time to make a weekly at home assessment to best keep an eye on your jewelry, and clean your ring with warm water and dish soap.
