Crown Style Guide

The crown refers to the structure that holds the center stone in place. Different crown styles affect how the diamond looks from the top and side, how secure it is, and how it performs for everyday wear.

Petal Prongs

Lotus-style prongs that hold the center stone. Petal prongs are based on the open gallery design but are actually stronger, since they are essentially two prongs connected to form one.

Diamond Petal Prongs

Our signature lotus petal prongs with diamonds set into the petals. Lotus-style prongs that hold the center stone. Petal prongs are based on the open gallery design but are actually stronger, since they are essentially two prongs connected to form one.

Diamond Open Gallery Prongs

An open gallery crown design that allows full views of the center stone from all angles, featuring diamonds set into the prongs for added sparkle. This style is only recommended for center stones 2 carats and under. For diamonds 2 carats or larger, we recommend selecting a design with additional structural support, such as a rail between the prongs, a hidden halo, or an under halo, to properly support the diamond and prongs.

Diamond Prongs with Hidden Halo

Diamond-set prongs hold the center stone while a hidden halo of diamonds sits underneath it, positioned between the prongs. This design adds subtle sparkle and elevated detail from the side view while maintaining a clean, classic look from the top.

Hidden Halo

A band with diamonds set into it that goes underneath the center stone and sits between the prongs. This style works best for rounded diamond shapes. It can only be seen from the side, not the top, and is slightly more recessed under the stone.

Under Halo

A band with diamonds set into it that goes underneath the center stone and wraps around the outside of the prongs. This wrap-style pavé under halo more distinctly matches the shape of the center stone and lends itself best to square or unique diamond shapes, such as heart shapes. This under halo is easier to see than a hidden halo but can only be seen from the side, not the top.

Halo

A frame that goes around the center stone and can be seen from the top. Halos typically make the center stone look larger and also add protection.

Halo with Diamond Petal Prongs

A classic halo frame surrounds the center stone while our signature diamond petal prongs hold it in place. If you cannot decide between a halo or diamond petal prongs, this style offers the best of both worlds.

The halo adds extra sparkle, enhances the visual size of the center stone, and provides additional protection along the diamond’s edges. Diamond petal prongs are lotus-style prongs with diamonds set into the petals, adding refined detail and sparkle while securely holding the center stone.

Halo with Petal Prongs

A classic halo frame surrounds the center stone, while high-polish lotus-style petal prongs hold it securely in place. This design combines the added sparkle, visual size enhancement, and protection of a halo with the soft, sculptural look of polished gold petal prongs for an elegant and timeless finish.

2D Halo

This is when you have a traditional halo facing upward, along with an additional halo facing outward, similar to an under halo but more visible. It has all the same benefits as a typical halo, with added sparkle from the extra diamonds.

Open Gallery

The most simple and classic head, allowing full views of the diamond from all angles. Only the necessary amount of metal is used to hold the center stone. This style is only recommended for diamonds 2 carats and under.

Open Gallery with Rail

An open gallery crown with the added security of a high-polish metal rail that goes between all of the prongs. This rail helps prevent the prongs from opening over time while maintaining a clean, classic look.

Bezel

The strongest type of crown, featuring a full rim of metal that surrounds and holds the center stone securely in place.

Half Bezel

Similar to a bezel, but the metal only wraps around the diamond partially. This allows you to see the edges of the center stone. It is a secure setting style that is bold and gold-forward.

Solid Basket

The rail is increased in width to create a solid gold cup underneath the center diamond. This is a very durable basket style, as there are no open air pockets between the prongs. This design is also best suited for inlay rings, allowing for a very low-profile setting.

Double Wire Basket

Similar to the solid basket, but with open air pockets to reduce the amount of gold used and make the setting easier to clean. Very durable and a best match for inline rings.

Open Gallery with Engraved Rail

A classic open gallery crown that allows full views of the center stone from all angles, enhanced with an engraved metal rail connecting the prongs. The engraved rail adds extra structural support while introducing subtle decorative detail, combining durability with refined craftsmanship.

Georgian Set

An old-time style that has been re-envisioned with modern styling. Similar to a bezel with prongs, this is a sleek, metal-forward design where the center stone is raised above the bezel for added security. The surrounding ring of metal and prongs securely hold the stone while still allowing light to enter.
